Bonsai for Beginners

The basics of bonsai will be covered over the course of 1 day and you will create your own bonsai in training for you to take home and nurture. We hope to whet your appetite for more and the love of bonsai will become a life long passion.

The course is broken down into 5 sections and will cover most of the areas you need to know to get started in Bonsai. Different speakers
will address you in the morning and assist you in the afternoon workshop session.

The course numbers are limited and are run for new members, people who need a refresher, and interested members of the public.

Course Syllabus

8.30am – 9.30am    
Introduction, Basic Horticulture, 
Bonsai Tools & Equipment, Bonsai Styles

9.30am – 10.30am
Selecting Stock Trees, Selecting Pots, Soil

10.30am – 11.00am
Morning Tea

11.00am – 12.00pm
Tree Design & Styling, Branch & Leaf Pruning, Wiring

12.00pm – 1.00pm
Root Pruning, Potting, General Care
Questions & Discussion

1.00pm – 1.30pm
Lunch

1.30pm – 4.30pm
Workshop Practical
Each student will work with a mentor who will assist with wiring,
styling and potting of a tree for students to take home.
